Registration: Tuesday, January 20, 2009, 6:30-7:00pm, followed by Orientation meeting, 7-7:45pm

The Civic Orchestra is a performing group made up of string, woodwind, brass and percussion musicians from OU and the surrounding community. The Civic Orchestra provides advanced musicians the opportunity to perform high quality orchestral literature and is open to music and non music majors. Participants may choose either credit or noncredit enrollment.  

All participants must attend the Orientation/Registration on Tuesday, January 20, 2009. Depending on interest level, an audition may be required for players of wind and percussion instruments as determined by the instructor at orientation before registration can be finalized.

 

First Rehearsal:
Tuesday, February 3, 2009, 7-9:30pm

Final Concert: May 5, 2009 - 8:00 pm

Elgar – “Nimrod” from Enigma Variations
Shostakovich – Symphony No. 5, finale

General Registration Information

String players are not required to audition, but should be of moderate to advanced ability in order to handle the repertoire; this means having participated meaningfully in a high school orchestra at a minimum. Depending on interest level, an audition may be required for players of wind and percussion instruments as determined by the instructor at the orientation meeting before registration can be finalized.

These auditions will be held Wednesday and Thursday, January 21 and 22 and will be scheduled during the orientation meeting (see audition requirements below).

Registration Form and payment must be submitted through the College of Continuing Education. Registration fees are non-refundable after January 23.

Audition Requirements for Wind Players (if necessary)

  • Two contrasting excerpts of the player’s choosing from solo, etude, or ensemble literature (2-3 minutes total length);
  • Two major scales of the player’s choosing (minimum two-octave range);
  • Full-range chromatic scale.

Participants must choose to be enrolled for credit or to be a noncredit participant. Details are as follows:

Credit participants
1 hour college credit will be available: MUNM 2970 402 (letter graded)
Cost: University Bursar will determine credit tuition and fees. 

In order to receive credit, you must be fully admitted to OU by Friday, January 23. Participants desiring college credit will pay tuition and fees as established by the University of Oklahoma instead of the noncredit participation fee. Current OU students should consult their advisors before enrolling in Civic Orchestra credit.

Noncredit participants
If you do not wish to receive college credit, your fee will be $129 for the semester. This amount is due by Friday, January 23.

The OU Civic Orchestra is supported by The University of Oklahoma School of Music and University Outreach.

PARKING PERMITS FOR CATLETT PARKING GARAGE MUST BE OBTAINED IN ADVANCE THROUGH PARKING AND TRANSIT LOCATED IN ROBERTSON HALL (325-3311). Parking permits are not included in the registration fee.
